Life is too short to have a boring hair….

wp-1536995696955..jpgsikhas

Hair-Style-Hindu traditional way

The tuft of Hair known in India as sikha is a long tuft, or lock of hair left on top or on the back of the shaven head of a male Orthodox Hindu.

Though traditionally all Hindus were required to wear a śikhā, today it is seen mainly among Brahmachari, ‘celibate monks’ and temple priests

The śikhā is tied back or knotted to perform religious rites. Only funerals and death anniversaries are performed with the śikhā untied or with disheveled hair. Disheveled hair is considered inauspicious, and represents times of great sorrow or calamity.

Father of my nation, Mahatma Gandhi felt ashamed to wear the Sikha when he was in England & South Africa, since he could become laughing stock for the funny appearance.

In his autobiography, Mohandas K. Gandhi  writes about his encounter with an orthodox Hindu: In his words…

“He was pained to miss the shikha (tuft of hair) on my head and the sacred thread about my neck and said: ‘It pains me to see you, a believing Hindu, going without a sacred thread and the shikha.

These are the two external symbols of Hinduism and every Hindu ought to wear them.’ … [T]he shikha was considered obligatory by elders. On the eve of my going to England, however, I got rid of the shikha, lest when I was bareheaded it should expose me to ridicule and make me look, as I then thought, a barbarian in the eyes of the Englishmen.

In fact this cowardly feeling carried me so far that in South Africa I got my cousin Chhaganlal Gandhi, who was religiously wearing the shikha, to do away with it. I feared that it might come in the way of his public work and so, even at the risk of paining him, I made him get rid of it”.

The śikhā was one of the few symbols of Hindus that transcended caste, language or regional barriers. Although there were variations of the style of sikha amongst communities, it was obligatory for all males.

I have seen similar but slightly different hairstyles ,Chinese having in some of the Chinese Movies.

History of the Hairs World

In India I have come across Westerners who are followers of ‘ISKCON’

(International Society For Krishna Consciousness),having ‘tuft of hair

Why a devotee has a Sikha ?

Any thoughts on Men’s hairstyle in other religions ? Enlighten me further.

Head Gear

Helmet,Head protection,Head gear,Head injuries,Flower,

No..No… I am not talking about the Helmet, that the Indian Lady is wearing while riding the two wheeler and the lessons regarding advantages of wearing helmet etc. etc

If you look a bit closely…you notice that the woman is wearing tightly knit jasmine flowers

why the Indian women, especially those from South India wear the flowers on their hair without fail, everyday?

One Mr. Ramdoss in ‘Yahoo Answers’ got annoyed for this question and replied like this.

‘This is a tradition in India. Just like this there are social and fashion traditions in other parts of the world also. Why don’t you question them? Why does a man wear a tie in front, not at the backside? Stupid question, is it not ? It is stupid to ask a woman in India why she wears flowers. It is stupid to ask a widow in India why she does not wear flowers or wear a red spot on her forehead. This way you can go on questioning every custom all over the world. Why do you question the customs and practices of India alone. When the other parts of the world were cavemen, India had a great civilization working’.

But I felt it would have been proper for him to explain the importance/significance/purpose of Indian women wearing flowers on their hair so that people from other Cultures/Backgrounds can appreciate the explanation given.

Every morning, the women religiously put on the flower strands on their head after a bath. These flower strands definitely make the women look beautiful (For Indians atleast, I don’t know how the westerners feel about wearing flower on the hair).

Flowers are a symbol of love, good luck, happiness and prosperity.

In Indian household , a girl is supposed to wear flowers on her hair because it brings happiness to the family and prosperity to all the members.

Wearing flowers on the hair is the symbol that Goddess Lakshmi ( Goddess of Wealth ) is residing in the house and that wealth will never leave the house.

Jasmine ,Rose and Hibiscus are common ,jasmine being the favorite.

Please enrich me further if such things are seen in the western world and if it is so…what is the idea of wearing the flowers on hair, from westerners point of view ?

Thanks in advance for sharing your views.

Idol Worship

Thoughts of Sho

Hinduism approves idol or murti worship as a legitimate practice. The scriptures sanction it. The epics and the Puranas are replete with instances of the practice. According to them even gods and demons practice it to impress the higher gods and obtain boons from them..

idol-of-lord-ganesh-at-ganpatpura-ganesh-temple

In the epic Ramayana both Rama and Ravana worshipped the images and symbols of Shiva.

In the epic Mahabharata, Arjuna worshipped Shiva to obtain the might Pasutpatha weapon. Ekalavya worshipped the image of his guru Dronacharya.

In the Bhagavad-Gita, Lord Krishna cautions people about worshipping the unmanifested Brahman.  He also gives the assurance that in whatever form and manner people approach him, he will accordingly reciprocate.

The Tantras contain numerous conversations between Shiva and Parvathi about how to ritually worship the various forms and names of Shiva and Shakti for self-purification and liberation.

Thus, Hinduism does not disparage idol worship. Besides, it is also in…

Shit,disgust

“why do humans take messy shits that require their assholes to be cleaned while other animals just take clean shits”. First of all, animals are entirely capable of taking messy shits. Second, and the biggest reason, is that animals don’t give two fucks about the same things that humans do. For humans it is socially barbaric to walk around with a stank asshole, for animals they either clean it themselves in some way or just ignore it entirely because they have no reason to care. Humans wouldn’t need to wipe if it was socially acceptable to be gross as hell. DBrody6-Reddit

Yes.Yes.You are right…….I am seriously talking of the real Shit, not the shit happening in this world.

How do you take a shit ?(warning- If you’re shit scared of shitty matter, refrain from reading)

Yes.I can feel your expression, ‘Yuck’ ‘Yuck’ Right ?

All of us feel disgusted when somebody talks of poop. “ughh…”.

I want to be brutally frank.Talking of Poop ( except during eating ),I need not feel ashamed. Why should anybody, since It is one of the basic human actions.

OK.Let us not get annoyed..Is not Poop part of our body, originated from the very Butter scotch you savored sometime back ?

As a medical professional,I forgot the word ‘Disgust’ long time back and know nothing as to how it feels.

Being a doctor, I am also particular about the way we undo the poop stuff, and avoid infections, commonly Urinary tract infection more commonly in women.

Right or wrong over the generations ,the parents have passed on the their own know-how knowledge to their children as to the methodology of post poop techniques. But present day scenario is different.A proper training ,and awareness is very very important.

Wherever I provided a link, please have patience to go through.

Before I proceed further, you must be aware of the three steps,we follow to get free of the stuff ,namely
1.Positioning yourself, for a favorable outcome.
2.Cleaning the mess you made around the bottom-hole.
3.When you wipe yourself, which hand do you use, your dominant hand or your non-dominant hand?
What is the posture you adopt ? and why ? Are you pooping the wrong way ?
1.Sit on the Commode ( toilet) ( Sitting said to make the evacuation incomplete As per scientific studies). Don’t just sit there !

The only plus point for the Western Toilet Without a doubt is, it is much better suited for disabled and those with back ache and spine and disc / knee joint problems.
2.Squat on the porcelain stuff.( Recommended by many, but not possible for people with disc-spine problems)

Now let us talk of cleaning part.
How do you clean your poop ? and which is better ?
1.Cleaning your bottom hole with toilet paper.( Commonly followed in American & most of the European countries ). This process is said to leave some shit traces, and the person is said to carry this, wherever he/she goes)

2.Washing your rear with water, then pat down with a towel or soft toilet paper. ( In most of the developed Asian countries and some European cities),said to be the most hygienic way to get rid of shit

3.Using the hand & water (popular method in under developed Asian countries).

Most of the toilets will have Bucket filled with water and a Mug.

Once you have the water in the mug, hold it with your right hand and take it behind and tilt it a bit so that water starts falling slowly..make sure that it falls in the center (butt cleave) and from left hand side you are supposed to wipe the poop, with left hand, clean the area with movements of left hand along with water splash.(Don’t use Right hand, Remember your right hand is used for eating ,shaking hand etc )

Now the most important job…give your hands a good soap water wash after that. At this stage you can use tissue paper to wipe the wet area dry.I must say it all feels far more natural than using paper and either flushing it into the sea, or, even worse, leaving it for someone else to deal with !!

I don’t have any idea how things are done in African countries, since I don’t have any experience.I request blog members to add to my knowledge pool.

If you are an international traveler you should also remember the terminology used in different countries for the toilet namely, rest room, water closet,toilette,loo,dunny,ben-jo,bathroom,No-2 etc

I know it’s a controversial subject and each school of thought claim they are the best.

Some observations from the westerners

“Speaking of intimate. I sit in the “Indian” fashion no matter where I am. Yes, even if it’s a Western-style toilet. Even if it’s in the US or Europe. I also secretly wish that the whole world adopted the “hygiene faucet” but alas, they are not ready yet… Toilet paper has everyone in its soft, papery grip.” Ben.A.Wise

“You see, in India, most toilets have a hose-sort-of-looking thing attached that you’re supposed to stick under your butt to wash yourself. In fact, most of India thinks toilet paper is actually sort of gross. The logic being, why wouldn’t you wash your butt after you poop the same way you’d wash your hands after you poop? Why are a few simple plies of toilet paper sufficient enough to get your downstairs clean?
It’s enough to make you wonder: Is everyone in the Western world just walking around with poop on their butts all day? Are we the weird ones? Is the butt hose truly the most hygienic way to clean up after taking care of business?
It’s time the West embraced the butt hose. Our pants are full of microscopic shit particles and it’s really weird. In 2017 we need to really mix things up, and I think a fundamental rethinking of how we take a shit is a great first step.Ryan Broderick

Don’ miss to read the below link for in depth TRUE & UNBIASED analysis. The author has well articulated and discussed both positive and negative aspects of the culture shock -one gets when one travels to another part of the world !

Why do we use toilet paper instead of water showers, especially in the West?

Thanks for patiently reading , which methodology is better ?

Kindly share your thoughts.

Day 3 Lyric Challenge

My sincere thanks to Rev. Paul for nominating me for a ‘3 day Lyric Challenge’

This is the 3 rd and final of the 3 day challenge

Please do check his wonderful blog at Parallax , the title of his blog, which is self explanatory, telling the readers that all of us have different views and opinions, just like Parallax and how we all can be compassionate and understanding and respect others view point. His other interests include social justice, inter-faith dialogue, environmentalism, and community development.
My choice for Day 3 and final lyrical Challenge is ‘Another day in Paradise’ by Phil Collins

Collins sings the song from a third-person perspective, as he observes a man crossing the street to ignore a homeless woman, and he implores listeners not to turn a blind eye to homelessness because, by drawing a religious allusion, “it’s just another day for you and me in paradise“. Collins also appeals directly to God by singing: “Oh Lord, is there nothing more anybody can do? Oh Lord, there must be something you can say.” (wikipedia)

Lyrics
She calls out to the man on the street
‘Sir, can you help me?
It’s cold and I’ve nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me?’
He walks on, doesn’t look back
He pretends he can’t hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there
Oh think twice, it’s another day for you and me in paradise
Oh think twice, ’cause it’s just another day for you,
You and me in paradise, think about it
She calls out to the man on the street
He can see she’s been crying
She’s got blisters on the soles of her feet
She can’t walk but she’s trying
Oh think twice, ’cause it’s another day for you and me in paradise
Oh think twice, it’s just another day for you,
You and me in paradise, think about it
Oh Lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh Lord, there must be something you can say
You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that she’s been there
Probably been moved on from every place
Cause she didn’t fit in there
Oh think twice, ’cause another day for you and me in paradise
Oh think twice, it’s just another day for you,
You and me in paradise, just think about it, think about it
It’s just another day for you and me in paradise
It’s just another day for you and me in paradise, paradise
It’s just another day for you and me in paradise
It’s just another day for you and me in paradise, paradise
It’s just another day for you and me
It’s just another day for you and me
It’s just another day for you and me in paradise
In paradise

My sincere thanks to Rev. Paul for nominating me for a ‘3 day Lyric Challenge’

My choice for Day 2 lyrical Challenge is Kansas song ‘Dust in the wind’ Kansas is an American rock band that became popular in the 1970s

The title of the song is a Bible reference, paraphrasing Ecclesiastes:

I reflected on everything that is accomplished by man on earth, and I concluded:

Everything he has accomplished is futile — like chasing the wind! ( wikipedia )

What does dust in the wind by Kansas mean ?

I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment’s gone
All my dreams pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind

Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Oh, ho, ho
Now, don’t hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won’t another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
The wind

John Winston Ono Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, and peace activist who co-founded the Beatles,

My choice for Day 1 Lyrical challenge is his song Imagine

Its lyrics encourage the listener to imagine a world at peace without

the barriers of borders or the divisions of religion and nationality

and to consider the possibility that the whole of humanity would

live unattached to material possessions (Wikipedia)

Lyrics
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

What we see is not always true

CastleDale | Words Of Inspiration

seeI am sure you have come across situations where you believe and are almost 100% sure that what you see is true but later it turns out that you were wrong and someone else who tried telling you that earlier was right. Sometimes, we as humans make mistakes.

Here is a small story I read in a bulletin today – “A lady waiting at the airport terminal for her flight was carrying a bag of chips. She started eating it and noticed the person sitting next to her was also grabbing chips from her pack and having it. She felt terrible about it but did not want to create a scene. This went on until the last piece was left which the other man took broke it into half and took one half and gave the other half to the woman.

The woman felt disgusted by it and left the…

RUN FOR ‘DEAR LIFE’

“Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must move faster than the lion or it will not survive. Every morning a lion wakes up and it knows it must move faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn’t matter if you are the lion or the gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better be moving.”

Maurice Greene (attributed to Roger Bannister shortly after running the first sub-4 m)

How do you feel about modern life of human beings?

Any different from animals?

As human beings we don’t literally do running, but Are we not into the  ‘Rat race’ to ‘Survive’ at the cost of ‘peace of mind’ & ‘lack of Sleep’?

I am trapped into the rat race…which doesn’t seem to end, neither I am able to come out,   in the middle of the race because there are no referees to allow this.

Please Give me your thoughts on how we are different and busy clinging to our lives, without any purpose.

Accept it.We all indulge in ‘Blame Game’

Blame game

Blame is a beautiful thing, baby. Blame keeps this whole planet spinning. You can point your finger at the next man, you can shift the weight onto him, you don’t have to carry that shit around yourself. You can slide into bed and get a good night’s nap. Yeah, right.

Narrator-Augustus Hill ( played by Harold Perrineau) from Oz tv series
Remember,

Blame is fascinating – it shapes our lives. It can be a benign way of positioning ourselves, a gentle joust or banter, or it can be poisonous, hurtful or devastating for its victims. It can tear apart marriages and fracture work relationships; it can disable major social programmes; it can inflict damage on powerful corporations; it can bring down governments; it can start wars and justify genocides.
Stephen Fineman, The Blame Business: The Uses and Misuses of Accountability

Don’t forget,

“All blame is a waste of time. No matter how much fault you find with another, and regardless of how much you blame him, it will not change you. The only thing blame does is to keep the focus off you when you are looking for external reasons to explain your unhappiness or frustration. You may succeed in making another feel guilty about something by blaming him, but you won’t succeed in changing whatever it is about you that is making you unhappy.” Wayne Dyer
Any thoughts on how not to get trapped by the Blame game ?

When diet is wrong,Medicine is of no use .When Diet is correct, there is no need of Medicine.

Ayurvedic Proverb

But sadly, many times we love to over eat, eat wrong food, and express lack of time for daily exercises. Many other  excuses are readily available.

Some of my friends who are diabetic, regulary eat sweets ( which is forbidden),and they come up with statements saying that their sugar is under control since they take their diabetic medicines regularly ,as if the diabetic medicines give them the licence to over eat the sweets.

Some other friends with Hypertension ( High blood Pressure ) eat food rich in salt, like pickles, salt laced chips etc.( salt is restricted for hypertensive patients).

They happily tell me that they are care free since medicines they take to control the BP, will also take care of their salt in the food.

What is your type ? Do You eat food and medicine also like my friends ?

If you ask me, yes,I find many times difficult to resist the food, over eat some times and take pancreatic enzyme tablets for better digestion, whenever I felt I overindulged.

What are your thoughts on this subject ?

Thanks for going through the post.

I’m Sorry though I’m not at fault…

Do you say sorry when it is not your fault ?

I believe forgiveness is the best form of love in any relationship. It takes a strong person to say they’re sorry and an even stronger person to forgive.
